Polish Society of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
A nationwide professional association certifying psychotherapists and supervisors in the psychodynamic approach. We have been active since 2006, bringing together over 2,300 specialists.
Mission and history
The standard of psychodynamic psychotherapy in Poland
PTPPd is a nationwide professional association of psychotherapists and supervisors working in the psychodynamic approach. Our goal is to raise the standards of psychotherapy in Poland — through the certification of specialists, the organisation of conferences and seminars, publishing, and supporting academic research.
We bring together over 2,300 members across 16 regional branches. We run two thematic sections — the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Section and the Couple Psychotherapy Section — and we collaborate with leading psychoanalytic centres in Europe and worldwide.
We represent the psychodynamic paradigm — a coherent and considered way of working psychotherapeutically, grounded in clinical experience and ongoing reflection.
Where we come from
The Society was established in 2006 as the result of years of work by the community of psychotherapists associated with the Kraków Psychodynamic Centre (KCP) — chiefly Maciej Wacholc and Janusz Kitrasiewicz.
The model of psychodynamic work we represent today took shape at the Neurosis Treatment Ward of the Kraków Psychiatric Clinic — in a long-standing dialogue between Assoc. Prof. Boguchwał Winid and Dr Piotr Drozdowski.
The first two terms of the Main Board were chaired by Janusz Kitrasiewicz. The current President of the Main Board is Piotr Miszewski.
Values and ethics
What guides our work
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is work within a deep relationship with the patient. This requires not only clinical competence from the psychotherapist, but also ethical maturity. That is why our society rests on a shared professional code and values — binding on every certified member.
Statutory authorities
The patient's wellbeing
The patient and their wellbeing are at the centre of our work. Every therapeutic decision is made with care for their growth, boundaries, and safety — including after treatment ends.
Professionalism and continuous development
The work of a psychodynamic psychotherapist requires supervision, personal therapy, and constant reflection. We commit to maintaining the highest professional standards throughout our working lives.
Confidentiality and trust
Professional confidentiality is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship. Every PTPPd member undertakes to maintain full confidentiality towards the patient and to respect their right to privacy.
